November 21, 2021: Your November Update

Hello Cruisers Family!

Holiday Event:

This holiday season we invite you to join us, beginning Nov 29th, for the 12 days of Cruisers Giving!!

Each day leading up to Dec 11, we will gift lucky Cruisers with virtual gift cards (all from the FlipGive program). All members are eligible for the daily giveaways. Keep your eyes on social media and your inbox to see if you’re a winner of a special holiday treat!

Our 12 days of Giving will culminate with a meet up at Gage Park in downtown Brampton to enjoy the festive lights, some hot chocolate, and a grand prize draw for those in attendance.

More info to follow - no action needed to enter the 12 days of giving but an RSVP will be required for the Gage Park get together. Please RSVP here:

Rockets in Quebec:

After being kept away from the sport that we love for a year and a half due to COVID-19, the Rockets took part in a series of exhibition games in Laval, Quebec. It was great getting back on the court with our Cruisers teammates and playing actual games against other teams and athletes we normally wouldn’t. We had some athletes from other clubs in Ontario as well as athletes from the national team added to our roster, which was a great experience. The national team athletes gave us some great leadership and were very helpful, supportive and we were able to learn a lot from them. Everyone was there because of their love for playing wheelchair basketball, there were smiles and laughs all weekend!

It’s well into the Holiday Shopping season aka Black Friday, aka Cyber Monday, aka Black November, aka time to remember to buy your gift cards on FlipGive!  If you are shopping online this year check to see if your favourite store or restaurant is part of the FlipGive program.

Did you know that to date we have raised over $2,100 for our club from members and friends using the FlipGive app?  Incredible!!

If you have not already signed up, join our team now and you’ll get a $5 bonus the first time you shop:

Golf Tournament:

The 22nd annual golf tournament was a great success. This year it was held at Carlisle Golf Club. Even though the weather was a bit cooler, everyone had a great time. 75 golfers took part and helped us raise over $12,000 for Cruisers. Mark your calendars for next year, we will be at the same course on September 23, 2022!

Cruisers Cup:

The 12th Annual Cruisers Cup was a great success. 22 teams vied for gold medals in all the divisions. Every team was excited to be there and ready for the competition. New this year was South Korea's National team. They had a great time and are looking forward to participating again next year. The 13th Annual Cruisers Cup will run from November 4-6, 2022.

Joe needs to go! (in a nice way):

Joe Dobson has been our treasurer for a couple years now, and has done a fantastic job. But Joe has decided it’s time to pass the torch along. The Board is starting the process of looking for a new treasurer. Joe is more than willing to help show somebody the ropes so they are not overwhelmed. If you’re interested in learning more about the role, reach out to us, and we will give you more information!

In closing we really hope to see everybody out Saturday Dec. 11th at Gage Park in Brampton! It will be great to catch up with all those friends and clubmates you haven’t seen in a while!
