Some Exciting Accomplishments
In Wheelchair Basketball we are excited to report that the Rockets won a Bronze medal at the National Championships in PEI. Our very own Tamara Steeves was named a tournament all-star and Erik Robeznieks had double doubles in two separate games. Great work to the whole team. Also the Falcons were represented by an all-female team at their last tournament with two wins and one loss. Lastly two Cruisers, Grace Plum and Laura Calovini represented Ontario as part of the Ontario Women’s Development team at Défi Sportif in Montreal.
In Para Ice Hockey news the Juniors won gold at the Défi Sportif tournament in Montreal. The final game was tied 1-1 after a five minute overtime period and was finally won after the seventh shoot out.
Congratulations to all of the Cruisers athletes who attended the NextGen Para Hockey Prospects Camp in Montreal, Quebec. Following the camp, Christina Picton, Anthony Culmone and Jacob Calvert were named to Canada's National Para Hockey Development Team and took on the United States in a three game series as part of the 2019 Défi Sportif AltGo.
A number of Cruisers athletes participated in the 2019 Canadian Sledge Hockey Championships in Elmira, Ontario.
The Canadian Women's National Sledge Hockey Team will be facing off against Sledge Team Ontario in Port Colborne at the Vale Health & Wellness Centre from May 17th - 19th. Both teams will be proudly represented by Cruisers Athletes.
Lastly, four of our Cruisers HP (high performance) Para Athletics Track and Field athletes are competing in the Swiss Series -one of the most well attended international competitions for wheelchair racers. This team will be supported by 3 of our coaches/support staff for the three competitions that take place between May 24th and June 1st. Please stay tuned for our first Instagram takeover that will follow a day in the life at this event. Good luck in Switzerland.
