Sledge Hockey

Sledge Hockey is the Cruisers’ most popular program. Over 90% of our registered athletes participate either competitively or recreationally on a team.  Sledge hockey is adapted from Canada's national pastime, and provides players of all ages and abilities the opportunity to participate in the game. Our current program is divided into junior and intermediate levels. Players sit on lightweight sledges that have two modified skate blades attached to the underside of the sledge. Each player uses two specially designed hockey sticks to push themselves across the ice. Registered athletes get the use of a club sledge, sticks, and jersey while providing their own personal hockey equipment.

Weekly sledge hockey practices are held every Saturday from October to April at Iceland Arena in Mississauga. The Cruisers Sledge Hockey team also competes in regularly scheduled games and tournaments with other clubs in Southern Ontario. These games and tournaments take place in various cities such as Hamilton, Niagara Falls, Kitchener, Buffalo, Thornhill, London, St.Catherines, Peterborough, Elmvale and Ottawa, all of which have established separate teams of children and adults.

There is a bi-annual provincial tournament that has teams representing different regions in the province.  Players try out and are selected based on abilities and compete for the provincial title.

If you are interested in playing, coaching or refereeing please contact the Director of Registration, Mary Bennett or the Director of Sledge Hockey, Ken Hall.
