- Our AGM was held last Thursday where The positions of Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, Director of Sledge Hockey, Athlete Representative and Director at Large were up for election.
- John Clark, who has served as our Treasurer for the past ten years decided to step down from the board. John has been a valuable volunteer to the Cruisers as a member of the board. John could be trusted to stand up for all Cruisers when decisions and ideas were debated at the board level. John did a lot of work behind the scenes such as filing the club’s tax returns, working with our accountant, preparing monthly income statements, and issuing our annual budget. John, Thank you again for all you did for the club!
- Thankfully, we have a new person who is willing to take all this on!! Welcome to Sarah Calvert who will be our new Treasurer!
- Karl Ludwig was your Athlete Representative for the past two years. Karl was a voice of the membership on the board. His opinion as an athlete was important and one we seeked to ensure the decisions we were making were representative of the Cruiser athletes. However, due to time conflicts Karl could not continue on the board. As a result, your new Athlete Representative is Chantelle Low. Chantelle will be a great representative as she currently plays Wheelchair Basketball but has also been a sledge hockey player. Welcome, Chantelle.
- The position of Vice President was acclaimed by Americo Morais. The position of Secretary was acclaimed by Linda Beacham. The position of Directors of Sledge Hockey was acclaimed by Ken Hall. The position of Director at Large was acclaimed by Skotty Legassie.
- Next year the positions of President, Director of Fundraising, Director of Registration, Director of Wheelchair Basketball, Director of Track & Field, Boccia, and Director at Large (there are two positions) will be up for election. If you are interested in getting on the board then I encourage you to do so. We are always looking for new ideas and to improve on the events we host. If you have any questions please ask anyone on the board.
- The Cruisers will be hosting its Second Annual Track & Field and Boccia meet on Saturday May 8th at York University. All registered Track & Field and Boccia athletes who plan to compete must register by April 23rd via our website at www.cruisers-sports.com
- Our Third Annual Awards Gala is coming up next month! May 29th at Speranza Banquet Hall in Brampton at 6:00pm. Tickets are free for all registered Cruiser athletes. For all others tickets are $50 each and include dinner and dance. A cash bar is available as well as raffle tickets and a silent auction. We need each family to obtain one item for the silent auction table. Please advise Skotty Legassie once you have your silent auction item.
- Keep your eyes open for your GALA PACKAGE in the mail. In it you will find a Cover Letter, a Sponsorship Program, a Donation Commitment Form and a Sample Cover Letter to potential sponsors.
- We would like you to send the Sponsorship Program and Donation Commitment Form to a company, person or organization you think will be able to make a financial contribution to the Cruisers Awards Gala. The Sample Cover Letter for potential sponsors is attached. Please feel free to use this letter when sending your package but ensure you edit it so their information is in the address field.
- If you need more packages please let me know and I will send them to you asap.
- Congratulations go out to Chantelle Low and Tamara Steeves who made the Ontario Junior Women’s Wheelchair Basketball team which will be competing in Saskatoon in May!

They will be playing in a tournament in Montreal this weekend. The final team will be selected in September.
- Our very own Kathy Ludwig has been selected as a Women in Coaching Apprenticeship Coach for Ontario in the Canada Games. Two women from each province are selected for this. Kathy is the only coach to be selected across Canada who coaches a sport for people with a physical disability. Congratulations, Kathy!
